Post 9: changes that I'd do to my career program.

Hi everyone! Today post is about the things that I would like to change to my study program. I'm studying Geography since 2013, and in spite of I love my career there's many small and big details that I'd change.
For example our University -and in particular our school (Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, i.e, Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism)- has serious infrastructure problems. There's no workspace for Design students to make their works, so they occupy common places like halls and corridors with materials and tools (dangerous tools! like electric saws and drills), making noise and generating a lot of garbage. There’s no enough parking slots, so the cars parks in our school yard. The classrooms are not designed to be used as classrooms! this building once was a market and a military enclosure for horses (cavalry).
In Geography we always go on field trips, they're a very important part of the applied studies but the money that school provides it is never enough, only covers what is necessary for food but no for housing so we have to put our own money.
About the courses, there are good and bad things. The good things are the professors, almost all of them are expert in their areas with Phd and very committed with our learning. But for the other side some courses are obsolete in this days when the use of information technologies (IT) are fundamental. However for the new generations there is a new curriculum with more applied knowledge and field work.
I hope someday our school works efficiently and use the resources for the good of all the community and not in bureaucracy of a public university, considering the entire chilean education system.

Post II: the best concert ever!

Hi everyone, for my second post I'll talk about my favorite band Iron Maiden and one of the best concert of my life.

Iron Maiden is a British heavy metal band, they have more than twenty albums and fans all around the world. For many, Iron Maiden is a religion.

They have visited Chile many times since the Catholic Church prevented them from playing for the first time in 1992. But they took revenge and they've come eight times since that impasse. I saw them six of those eight times.

It was on March, 22 of 2009 when they played at “Club Hípico”, the largest audience ever. Before that, they've always played in smaller enclosures like "Pista atlética del Estadio Nacional" and always tickets ran out. But this was a special tour, full of classics songs that they do not play often live. So the band insisted on a bigger place, like "Estadio Nacional" but it was occupied that week for another concert. The "Club Hípico" is not an ideal place for live music but none of that mattered when they finally came on to stage and played in front of sixty thousand people!

It was a great experience, I sang every song ‘till I lost my voice. There were fireworks and flamethrowers that you could feel on your skin. And they played one of my favorite songs ever, based on a classic English poem: The rime of the ancient mariner.

Enjoy!

Post I: a country I'd like to visit

Maybe it sounds weird but a country that I would like to visit is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, as known as, North Korea.

Located in a geopolitical hotspot, the Korean Peninsula, this country has gone through a war at the principle of 1950 that it's not over yet, signing an armistice with the United States and dividing the peninsula between the north and the southern part. It turned into a very hermetic society with a particular political regime based on a cult of personality around Kim Il-sung and his successors.

However, beyond what media shows, I would really like to know in first person at the people who make their life everyday under a different paradigm with others customs. A simpler way of life totally different from ours.

I have read blogs from people who traveled there and it just make my curiosity grow. Pyongyang is a very large city with millions of people, with big streets and few cars. Some women still uses their traditional costumes full of colors.

I think it is necessary to make an informed opinion before making judgments and actions against a country from which we really do not know anything. And different could be good too.

Here's a time lapse video from Pyongyang, enjoy!
